“People have always wanted to put me in cages: cages with cushions stuffed with promises, gilded cages, cages that I’ve touched looking away from. I never wanted any other than the one I would build myself.” – GABRIELLE CHANEL
This quote served as the inspiration for the CHANEL Spring/Summer 2025 RTW show, designed by the Fashion Creation Studio.
This idea of freedom and self-sufficiency that Coco aspired to her whole life was represented through a beautiful airy and delicate collection, adorned with feathers and sequins. Returning to the Grand Palais after its restorations, CHANEL welcomed guests through an “invitation to spread one’s wings”. An array of capes were shown to support this idea – and they were all exquisite.
Also on theme throughout the collection, were birdcage minaudiere, crochet and mesh pieces, and feathered collars and accessories. Not to mention the larger than life birdcage, constructed with intertwining C’s, that stood in the middle of the runway, the models walking through it effortlessly. Because it is the cage that Coco built, a cage to showcase beauty but a beauty that is free to be her own woman.
